The Perito Moreno glacier is the great attraction of this remote area of Patagonia , is one of 48 glaciers fed by the massive ice field in Southern Patagonia, the third biggest extension of continental ice - after Antarctica and Greenland - is the the third largest reserve of freshwater in the world.

It is one of the most impressive glaciers in the world and has called it the "eighth wonder of the world" because of the view that it is its top.

With more than 400km long and 50km wide, this glacier is located in the large and inaccessible of the Andes. The Perito Moreno Glacier is also one of only three Patagonian glaciers immune to global warming. There are about ninety years advancing 700m a year, provided by the heavy snow falling on its base in the Andes, and there are about ninety years lose approximately the same area per year, by ablation, when you see the lake Argentino. Its thickness is stable, achieves an unbelievable 700 meters in the deepest part.

The Perito Moreno is the reason for the existence of El Calafate, the city that serves as an operational interface between the southern and northern sectors of the Los Glaciares National Park, and was baptized with the name of a Patagonian thorny bush that gives blue berries used in cooking Argentina . The city is a vast alluvial plain vacant by the retreat of Lake Argentino, made of basic buildings, almost all pre-fabricated and erected without town planning worthy of the name.
