
Christ the Redeemer is one of the most beautiful symbols of Rio de Janeiro . It is a monument located on the Corcovado hill in Rio de Janeiro , is considered the largest art deco statue in the world. The Christ the Redeemer statue measures 38 meters high, weighs 1,145 tons and measures 28 meters from the edge of one hand to another and this at a height of 709 meters above sea level. The inauguration took place on 12 October 1931, the day also commemorates Our Lady of Aparecida the patron saint of Brazil . The construction took almost five years and was recently renovated.
Christ the Redeemer can be seen from most parts of the city and is a must visit for anyone who goes to Rio de Janeiro. To reach the statue, you can go by car or public transport. But undoubtedly the most interesting way to get to Christ the Redeemer is through the Corcovado Train, one of the railways the world's smallest, with only 3824 meters.
Besides being the greatest symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer is also, since 2007, one of New Seven Wonders of the World.
