While Europe remembers the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Germany inaugurated a museum in Berlin dedicated to the Nazi crimes, next to the monument built to honor the murdered Jews of Europe, opened five years ago.

The Museum aims to show visitors the "terror" lived at the time. The Topography of Terror museum is located in the area where there was the headquarters of the Nazi secret police, the Gestapo and the SS. That site had been arrested nearly 15 thousand people between 1933 and 1945. "We want to make history visible," said the director of the museum. "The 'Topography of Terror' is not a memorial, but a place where we can learn, a place associated with the guilty," he added.

Built on the old attics of the Gestapo - the only remnant of the original buildings - the museum two-story glass and steel, gives the impression of floating over the ground. On the walls are pictures of Nazi leaders, the people arrested by the Gestapo, as well as executions, and signs that attempt to explain the efforts made in the post-war to punish the culprits.

The place is among the top ten tourist attractions in Berlin .
